About Hop Testing

Hop tests are functional assessments used to evaluate lower limb power, confidence, and readiness for sport. The four standard hop tests are:

  • Single Hop for Distance: Jump as far as possible on one leg, land on same leg
  • Triple Hop: Three consecutive hops, measuring total distance
  • Crossover Hop: Three hops crossing over a line, measuring total distance
  • 6-Meter Timed Hop: Hop 6 meters as fast as possible, measuring time

LSI Target: ≥90% on all hop tests is typically required for return-to-sport clearance.

🏃 Single Hop for Distance

Record the best of 3 attempts. Measure in centimeters from takeoff line to heel at landing.

🏃 Triple Hop for Distance

Three consecutive hops on same leg. Measure total distance from start to final landing.

🏃 Crossover Hop for Distance

Three hops, alternately crossing over a 15cm line. Measure total distance.

⏱ 6-Meter Timed Hop

Hop 6 meters as fast as possible. Record time in seconds. Note: For timed tests, lower is better, so LSI is calculated differently.
